Walkovers rule the day at Sunshine Meadows

Delray Beach, FL:..Nov. 22, 2025…The Florida Standardbred Breeders and Owners Association continued their Stakes program Saturday at Sunshine Meadows Equestrian Village with a shortened four-race program with the Stallion Stakes Finals, with prizes increasing to $6,000 per race.

Here are the results:

Race One: Stallion Stakes Two-Year-Old Filly Trot: $6,000

Gators No Angel, a daughter of Rose Run Nolanbroke her maiden in the easiest way — a walkover — as she strolled around the Sunshine Meadows, a mile-long oval in 2:19 on panels of :35, 1:10.3 and 1:44.4 for trainer Mickey McNichol.

Gators No Angel, owned by George CL Birkhold, had been relegated to a trio of third-place finishes in her previous events in Sunshine State Stakes action.

In a post-race interview, Mickey said: “She was going so fast at the end that I had to fasten my seat belt… but what can I tell you, a win is a win!”

This first win increased the filly’s earnings to $7,669.

Race Two: Stallion Stakes Three-Year-Old Filly Trot: $6,000

For the second week in a row, Sunshine Jet toured the Sunshine Meadows circuit in a new run of life – this time 2:03.3 in a walkover – as trainer-driver Nick Coblentz had the filly displaying perfect manners in posting fractions of :30.3, 1:02 and 1:31.2.

The second daughter Odin Jetbelonging to the Amante Stable, now has a lifetime scorecard of 9-6-2-1 and $28,131 on her resume with $12,497 so far in November in her four starts at Sunshine Meadows, including three wins.

Coblentz said after the race, “It’s a great feeling to know that all I had to do was stay in the sulky and keep my boots in the stirrups.”

Race Three: Stallion Stakes, Three-Year-Old Filly Pace: $6,000

Prairie Puma extended its undefeated streak to four at Sunshine Meadows – and in the easiest way possible with a walkover – to give Joe Fiorello his fourth straight victory since being given the ‘green light’ to ride in moneyed events.

Fiorello’s first three wins were in competition with Gator Time and this event was a test of his rating skills on the track.

Dein Spriggs, owner of Prairie Puma, challenged Fiorello by instructing him to complete the walkover mile in 2:15 and Fiorello, watch and all, flew through fractions of :34, 1:10 and 1:45 before heading home flat in :30 to hit the nail of “2:15” right on the head.

Trained by Nick Coblentz, Prairie Puma, a daughter of Royal Millenniumjumped over the $50,000 lifetime premium plateau – now $51,258 – $22,414 this semester in 15 starts with six wins.

Race four: stallion stakes, three-year-old colt/gelding trot: $6,350

Jays Gator Boy, smartly handled by trainer Mickey McNichol for owner George Birkhold, won the war through the first half mile with Delray Jet, piloted by Rob Hoffman, scoring in a “relaxed” 2:07.

The castrated son of Rose Run Nolan had sprinted a bit outside the wings with Delray Jet, but McNichol kept his foe out, opening panels of :29 and 1:01 when Jays Gator Boy started sprinting clear during the third quarter (1:33.4) with a walk home to finish the mile.

It was the third successive win over his arch-rival – the scorecard now stands at 3 to 1 – with McNichol lamenting: “You know, post position really matters in these types of races and if you pull in and let the other horse go a little further it can make all the difference. It’s been the difference that the last three started with him!”

Jays Gator Boy recorded his fifth lifetime success in 24 career starts for $36,271. This year, the stats show 4-1-4 in 12 starts and $18,453.

Racing continues at Sunshine Meadows this Saturday, November 29 with post time at 11am, while the FSBOA Stakes season comes to a close with Super Saturday.
