Over the course of the past twelve months, Waldo Cortes-Acosta has really entered the fray in the heavyweight division. He seems to be getting better and better, and on Saturday night against Derrick Lewis, he was able to pull off one of the biggest wins of his career against a veteran of the spot.

There are now plenty of questions about what’s next for Cortes-Acosta. Many would suggest he is ready for a World Cup bid, but there is still a lot of uncertainty surrounding the future of the title given Tom Aspinall’s eye injury.
During the post-fight press conference, Cortes-Acosta called for a meeting with another veteran, Curtis Blaydes.
Cortes-Acosta wants to clash with Blaydes
“I asked for Curtis Blaydes before. Let’s see if he wants to fight me in Mexico,” Cortes-Acosta said at the UFC 324 post-fight press conference. “I would like to fight in Mexico if God allows it, and it would be an honor for me to represent Latin America in Mexico.”
“It’s not that difficult. It’s not a crazy big challenge,” Cortes-Acosta said when asked about Blaydes. “I’ve faced bigger challenges in the last three fights. I want to fight him because he talks a lot of nonsense on social media and I don’t like people who talk like that, so I want to crack his head.”
“I want to fight in Mexico, Mexico, Mexico,” Cortes-Acosta said. “Fighting in Mexico City has always caught my attention. It’s something I want to do for myself and for my family. I have four Mexican children and my wife is also Mexican, so I want to give her the opportunity to take her there so she can see Mexico and win there.”
