The Volkswagen Touareg of the second generation was perhaps only launched in Malaysia last year, but the nameplate seems to be going the way of the Dodo worldwide. Coach Reports that the mass market-badged Premium SUV will be stopped next year without successor, with reference to company insiders.
The approaching movement of Wolfsburg will draw a line under its chic ambitions, the car manufacturer has weld the original, let’s not forget, let’s forget, with the Porsche Cayenne and (ultimately) the Audi Q7-in 2002 not long after the fatal Phaeton Sedan. It also represents a shift in priorities for the brand, which is now aimed at a wider strip of buyers through more accessible premium models.
The role of Volkswagen’s flagship SUV will soon be recorded by the Tayron, essentially a stretched version of the Tiguan. It is offered in both gasoline, mild hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants-the latter that supplies up to 100 km of fully electric range and supplies with the extra usability of seven seats and the possibility to drag up to 2500 kg.

Although the Touareg will no longer be, his premium-coat brothers and sisters will almost certainly live on, such as the Cayenne, Bentley Bentayga, Lamborghini Urus and Q7. The last of this was of course collected CKD locally in Pekan, Pahang next to the Touareg.
Volkswagen has also decided to tag the slowly sold ID.5, a version in Coupé style of the Electric ID.4 SUV. The car debuted in 2021 with ambitions to conquer the Chinese market, but did not get a grip there, while in Europe it has become the victim to reduce the EV question and the preference of buyers for its more practical brother or sister. It will disappear in 2027 as part of a wider consolidation of the VW line-up with a greater focus on models with a high volume.

Future models have also been hit, with a smaller variant of the ID.Buzz MPV – previously discussed within the company as a potential Touran replacement – on the rear burner. “We looked at it, but the market demands crossovers and SUV models,” said a source close to CEO Thomas Schäfer. “This is the direction we finally decided to go inside.”
This decision was partly set in the field of the R&D capacity of VW that was pushed to the limit for the development of more important models, such as the fully electric wave of the next generation.
