Vladimir Guerrero Jr. puts Blue Jays ahead in Game 4 with rare homer off Shohei Ohtani

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. went where few have gone this season against Shohei Ohtani.

The Blue Jays slugger hit a two-run homer off the Dodgers two-way superstar in the third inning of Game 4 of the World Series on Tuesday night in Los Angeles.

With Nathan Lukes on first base, Guerrero jumped over a sweeper hanging over the middle of the plate, sending it over the left field wall and putting the Blue Jays up 2-1.

Ohtani had not allowed a home run in either of his previous two postseason starts this year. In fact, he hadn’t produced a dinger at all for over two months.

The Reds’ Noelvi Marte was the last to take him deep on August 27.

The three-time MVP is in the midst of an incredible postseason that saw him hit three home runs – including one from Dodger Stadium – in the NLCS during a start that saw him record 10 strikeouts on the mound. He added another incredible line to his resume on Monday when he homered twice and reached base nine times in an 18-inning win. He was intentionally walked four times in the game.

Game 4 marks Ohtani’s first-ever World Series start, as he played exclusively as a DH in 2024 while recovering from elbow surgery during the Dodgers’ run to beat the Yankees.

As for Guerrero, he now has seven long balls and 14 RBIs this postseason, with his average above .400.
