Delhi & District Cricket Association president Rohan Jaitley had earlier confirmed that the star batsman will don the Delhi jersey for this match. However, the latest update is that the 37-year-old will not be available. The exact reason is unknown but it can be assumed that the cricketer will soon be part of the Indian team for the upcoming ODI series against New Zealand, which will force him to be unavailable.
While the captain of Delhi Rishabh pants has also been included in India’s 15-man squad for the three ODIs, there are positive signs that the wicketkeeper-batsman will play the upcoming match before leaving for national duties. The series against the BlackCaps starts on January 11 and the players are scheduled to join the team on Wednesday.
The BCCI has made it mandatory for the centrally contracted players to participate in at least two domestic league matches when they are not on national duty. Since Kohli has already played a few matches, he does not need to play further. Pant has now played all five matches for Delhi and may play his last on Tuesday before returning to the club. Coming back to Kohli’s performances in the domestic league, the top-order batsman started the season with a magnificent hundred in the opening over and followed it up with a solid 77 in the second.
