And now Kompany is full of Pep Guardiola with his praise from Chelsea and Enzo Maresca, but I actually think he is completely sincere with his comments here and these are not mind games.
We know that Chelsea seriously looked at taking Kompany as a manager before he went to Bayern Munich. There is a real mutual respect between the two. So you know that he is very sincere with his comments prior to the two parties that meet tonight (of course this article was written before the Bayern v Chelsea game).
Vincent Kompany thinks that the youthful team of Chelsea can be their ‘hidden power’ while trying to build on the success they have already enjoyed under Enzo Maresca.
“I think Enzo did great,” Kompany told TNT Sports.
“You always have to look back on what a team was like when the manager started and the question marks around the team and the playing group.
“Of course you invest because you expect results, but in the end it is what it is, it is a young team. It is many talented players who had to come together and for them to be able to do it, it has been a remarkable task.
“If you look at Chelsea now, especially after the club World Cup, I don’t think you make too much distinction between Chelsea and the absolute top teams in England, so they are there.
“The advantage that you have with young players is where they are today, they will always be better tomorrow. If they have good habits, if they have a good environment, that’s what happens with a top mindset.
“I think that is the hidden power of Chelsea, they have a team that is on a path that will continue to rise. Of course we have the advantage that we are at home and have a team with experience,” he said.
I love Kompany, I have to admit. I think he has all the tools to become a very good manager and will grow even more and develop.
