Villach, Austria Friday

Signs are here.

Today I got up early and was ready to warm up Vicki for her singles match at the age of 11, but when we arrived at the courts, they were peeing and there was no game for the starting times of 9:30. So I went back to the apartment, went to the Aldi & Billa for some drinks, fruit, oatmeal etc. (oatmeal is only 75 cents for a large package … a bargain).

After I had driven back to the apartment, I decided to walk to the club, because it was not long a walk (about 1.2 miles) along a very narrow (albeit 2-riding strips) covered with cornfields and horse meadows, with cloud-covered mountains in the distance.

I arrived just in time to see Vicki play. She played Ulrike from Austria (the harpist who plays in Vienna Orchesten). They had a nice game and Vicki played great, all Hof Tennis and won 61 61 to continue to the final against Ellen Neumann (who eliminated American Catherine Morgan 62 62). After the game we had a drink that is quite normal in Germany/Austria after a competition (winner pays).

I walked back and did some exercises, stretching and packing. It was a nice day off after a rather hectic week.

Tomorrow I will play Heike Heimitz in my last round Robin match. She lost very close matches from both Sylvia and Shirley, whom I both defeated this week, but she is a very good player … We will see what will bring tomorrow. Sylvia and Shirley today split sets with Shirley retired after dropping the second set (knee).

Tomorrow Vicki and I both play at 9.30 am and play the Doubles final against Luisa and MJ Pachl who won their Doubles pretty decisively against Morgan and Jeannette Elly. Then I will continue to Feld am
