The NFL design of 2024 included Picking Minnesota Kicker will Reichard. Very quickly the Rookie settled as an important Viking.
His NFL career started with a burning start, consistently drilling stairs with ease during the opening for a few weeks of the season. However, he came across an obstacle in the middle of the season and missed some field goals before he went to the IR. In June, special teams coordinator Matt Daniels clarified how he understands the injury.
Key Viking will Reichard & the IR -placing 2024
How much football is too much football?
In baseball, a pitcher can be given the task with an overweight workload. There may be exceptions – one thinks of a pitcher who digs deep in the World Series, for example by making itself available for bullpen duty shortly after a start – but the general rule is needed, wise and useful.
So also, a kicker needs a certain amount of rest. At least that’s What Coach Daniels thinks.
Reichard had to at least partially hit the IR because of the amount of work he took on in 2024.
“I as a coach, who really had a Rookie -Kicker last year,” Daniels started, “a man who has the [college] Play -offs, went to the senior bowl, went to the combine and then he had a pro day. You really looked at, I mean, this guy actually played football without a break for eleven consecutive months. “
Daniels continued: “Of course he finally had the quad injury that took place in the middle of the season, and that was probably due to over-kicking. Overuitsie, really.”
Daniels then explains how the team wants to get better with both kick -offs and field goals. Or, in other words, the most prominent parts of the job description of a kicker. They consider extra points as a different crucial factor, but Reichard will have drilled last season, making it difficult to improve.
By the time the season ended, Will Reichard had drilled 24 of his 30 field goal attempts. That is a conversion rate of 80%. Not disastrous, but far from the top-end for NFL-Kickers (the NFL had ten qualifying kickers that were above 90%; a few even passed the 95% threshold).
He will want to push his percentage a little higher, something he can do by converting more of his stairs remotely. Reichard has a lot of leg power; Accuracy, no distance, was the problem. He went on 5/7 of 40-49 Yards and then 8/11 on stairs of 50+.
Curious spirits may be interested in noticing that his season was 58 Yards.
Will Reichard currently works out of season through a competition that … has no direct competition. He is the only kicker on the Roster, making him the obvious favorite to start the season as the KR1.
Reichard, 24, wears a cap -load of $ 1.002,655 in the season, which means that he offers the team enormous value.
