It was pretty special – your first professional hundred scoring – Stuart Broad Hails Jacob Bethell

Speaking at Sky Sports, Stuart Broad praised the innings of Jacob Bethell and said he has a bright future. He went out:

“It was pretty special – your first professional scoring in an ODI – and he played beautifully. England spoke to him high all summer, so we knew the talent was there, we just hadn’t necessarily seen it. But the way he hit the ball here and now and now – he was sublime.

“He manipulated the field beautifully and is a fresh striker of the ball, not only against spider but also pace. What I hear is that he has an adult head, and he has a bright future.”

Stuart Broad was also of the opinion that Joe Root played a crucial role to ensure that Jacob Bethell got his first hundred. He explained:

“It is easy to talk about his hundred, but the way in which he showed Bethell to the calmness and experience of Root to his hundred. When Bethell was in the 90s, Root brought him back in strike and brought him through it fairly quickly.

“If you had asked Bethell who he would have wanted to be close to a hundred, he would have said root. Joe does not take point balls, let the pressure come to him, stable the ship. It was not a burning innings, but he did what he did. He thought he was there when they were there and when he got out, that Bigger Hitters could find it.”
