Video: Dog put in plastic bag and thrown over a fence in Anaheim

A dog was treated in Anaheim on Friday after he was forced into a plastic bag and thrown over the fence of an animal hospital.

Surveillance footage showed a woman walking up to the gate of the University of Anaheim Veterinary Center and hoisting the bag containing the dog over the barrier.

Dr. Ash Hakhamian, the center’s medical director, found the dog later that morning. He said the male Maltese mix suffered serious injuries from his fall, and part of the fence’s nail strip was knocked off.

“To see him go through this and then hit his face or whatever in that bag, and we found out he had injuries to his jaw,” Hakhamian said. “It’s just an insult to an existing injury.”

When Hakhamian found the dog, he said there were signs of neglect.

“The countless fleas all over his body, the mats,” Hakhamian said.

The dog is being treated at Orange County Animal Care.

Anaheim police said the woman who threw the dog lives near downtown and was interviewed by police. Officers said they have given the Orange County district attorney information about the woman to possibly file charges.

Hakhamian said that while he has received many calls about adopting the dog, the puppy won’t be up for adoption for a few weeks as he recovers.

Animal owners who can no longer care for their pets should contact local shelters, rescue groups or animal hospitals for resources, Hakhamian said.
