Chelsea star Alejandro Garnacho made his feelings completely clear when asked if he regrets the way his departure from Manchester United took place.
Garnacho’s acrimonious departure from United
After joining United from Atlético Madrid in 2020, Garnacho wasted no time in establishing himself as one of the brightest talents to emerge from the club’s famed academy.
He was praised for his explosive pace and flair-filled playing style. The Argentine eventually made his senior United debut in April 2022 during a 1-1 draw against Chelsea.
Garnacho would develop into an important player in the first team under Erik ten Hag. Over three full seasons he helped the Red Devils win the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup, scoring in the latter’s final against Manchester City at Wembley.
However, his United career ended in controversial circumstances amid tensions with current boss Ruben Amorim.
Angered by Amorim’s decision to bench him for last season’s Europa League final defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, Garnacho publicly criticized the manager. Amorim responded by telling the striker to look for a new club as his services were no longer needed at Old Trafford.
Garnacho was part of the infamous ‘bomb squad’ before a £40m move to Chelsea was completed. He made fourteen appearances for the Blues in all competitions, scoring two goals and as many assists.
He spoke to the media ahead of Chelsea’s Champions League meeting with Atalanta and was asked how he left United.

When asked if he regretted how it ended, he replied bluntly: “No.”
If he continued when he was sad about the divorce, he would again respond, “No.”

He added”I came here to play my football and show people what player I am.”
“Sometimes in life you have to change things to take a step forward or to improve as a player. I think it was the right time and the right club. So it was an easy decision.”
“I wanted to stay in the Premier League because I think it is the best league in the world. I spoke to the manager (Enzo Maresca) before I came here and he explained the project to me. He convinced me and I am very happy to be here.”
“He explained everything to me and now that we are working together, we are doing well. We will improve over time, it has only been three months together, and he trusts me and that is the most important thing for the trust, and I want to improve.”
Garnacho played 144 games for United.
