San Antonio Spurs coach Mitch Johnson announced on Monday that star center Victor Wembanyama was medically deleted by both the team and the NBA to return from the deep veintrombosis (DVT) in his right shoulder who ended his 2024-25 season in February.

Earlier this year, the Spurs said in a statement that the condition, a form of blood clot, was discovered after Wembanyama returned to San Antonio after the All-Star game.
The condition is usually treated with blood -thinning medication, whereby the athlete must prevent it from participating in contact sports such as basketball.
Wembanyama, the Rookie of the year 2023-24 and a first All-Star, was on average 24.3 points, 11 rebounds, 3.7 assists and a leading 3.8 blocks last season in 46 games for the Spurs.

Wembanyama was on a pace to win and receive Defensive Player of the Year through all Defense and All-NBA awards.
The 21-year-old had already made 403 3-Pointers and blocked 176 shots at the time of the announcement. No player in the NBA history has ever ended a season with those figures and Wemby did it before the All-Star break.
However, because the 7-foot-3 large man did not pay the minimum of 65 game, he was not eligible for All-NBA, defending player of the year and other big prizes.
San Antonio was eight points per 100 assets worse when Wembanyama was outside the field last season.
De’aaron Fox signed multi -year deal with Spurs
The Spurs ended 34-48 (.415) in the 2024-25 season, their best record since 2021-22.
They now enter 2025-26 with a strong core with De’aaron Fox, Devin Vassell, Stephon Castle and Wembanyama.
San Antonio sent four first-rounders to the Sacramento Kings to acquire Fox at the Handelsdeadline.
Last month Fox agreed to a maximum contract extension of four years, $ 229 million with the franchise, Rich Paul van Klutch Sports told ESPNs Shams Charania.
Since Castle won Rookie of the Year last season and Dylan Harper No. 2 was selected in the NBA design of 2025, some insiders from the League wondered if FOX would receive a maximum contract extension.
Fox, who had an average of 19.7 points and 6.8 assists in 17 games with the Spurs last season, was undergoing a seasonal operation on March 18 to repair tendon damage in his left little finger.
As a result of his season that ended early, Wembanyama and Fox played only five games and 120 minutes together. In the small sample of assets, they allow 118.3 points per 100 assets and were a min-4.3.
