Former Manchester United -defender Victor Lindelof has hit an early stumbling block in his career in Aston Villa.
Lindelof joins Villa
Lindelof completed a move to Villa in the last phases of the summer transfer window and finally put an end to speculation about his future.
He had been a free agent after United had released him at the end of last season, after the expiry of his contract.
Lindelof spent eight seasons in United, after he arrived at the club of the Portuguese giant Benfica in 2017. He made 284 performances for the Red Devils.
During the transfer window, Lindelof was linked to people like Bayer Leverkusen and Fiorentina, but it was villa who eventually won the race to break him on a free.
The Swede made his debut for Villa last weekend when they played a 0-0 draw with Everton in the Hill Dickins Stadium.
He came up as a replacement in the 83rd minute and, surprisingly, played mainly in midfield.
Lindelof would hoped to build on his debut and make real progress, but Unai Emery has confirmed that he has suffered an injury.
Emery confirms Lindelof’s setback
Said emery [as quoted by Birmingham Live]”It’s a small injury, but maybe he will be available again in a few days.”
This issue ensured that Lindelof missed the Carabao Cup meeting of Villa with Brentford on Tuesday. Villa was dumped out of the competition on penalties.
The encouraging news is that Lindelof’s injury is not considered serious, and hopes that he can return quickly and finally start at Villa.
In the meantime, United is back in action on Saturday when they organize Chelsea in Old Trafford.
