Harness Racing Victoria’s new $ 2.75 million Vicbred Vouchers program, which started on Monday evening in Terang, has already earned a lot of praise from the participants in the industry.
Lexton-Fokker-owner coach Ashleigh Herbertson, who put Maxy Bomber forward to win the first of 150 first races that will transport a $ 5,000 voucher in the coming 14 months, said the new schedule is ‘Magnificent’.
“It has checked a box in my respect. Much more needs to be done, but it is a big start,” Herbertson said.
Herbertson bred Maxy Bomber from the former Smart Racemare Vapar Raine.
“I trained his mother. She raced in the group 1 Vicbred and Oaks, but unfortunately she got her hindleg one day over a fence in the garden and then she was never so good,” Ashleigh said.
“We finally came up with her and she went to a mixed sale of Alabar and was sold to Tasmania.
“A few years later, a good partner of mine Jayson Finnis from South Australia called to say that he saw that Vapar Raine had been introduced for a allocation sale. She had been such a good mare for us that we finally bought her back for $ 400.
“We have had three foals from her and she is now in foal to Kannibaal again.”
The first foal bred by Herbertson from Vapar Raine was Hope’s choice.
“She won three races, but had a heart attack on Melton and died on the track,” said Ashleigh.
“The next is Maxy Bomber.”
Herbertson is planning to use the $ 5,000 voucher this season to breed to a Victorian registered father.
“John Vagg, who owned the ‘Vapar’ horses, called me a few weeks ago and told me that he wants to get rid of all the horses from the building and one of his good mares is Vapar Grijns.
“I’m going to take Vapar grin and put her in foal as part of this bonus,” said Ashleigh.
The second Vicbred -Voucher race, which ran in Swan Hill on Tuesday evening, fell the way of the very smart Racemare Ruby Wingate, which was parked everywhere to win a heat from the Heidi George Mares Classic.
It was her 17one Success and stimulated her ringTotaal up to $ 186,245.
“She has really been a good mandrow. I had many problems with her career with bad quarter cracks,” said owner-trainer Adam Stephens. “Now we can stay on top of it, she is a lot better.”
“I have Ruby Wingate’s Sister Union Belle here and I would like to get her in foal.”
The Allendale, established Stephens, said that the Vicbred Vouchers program is a ” great schedule ‘.
The next Vicbred Voucher race will be performed in Ballarat on Thursday evening.
