Max Verstappen from Red Bull has admitted the error for his incident with Mercedes’ George Russell on the Spanish Grand Prix of 2025.
Verstappen had spent a large part of the race in third position until a late safety car saw him switch to the hard tire while everyone around him chose the faster soft tires.
That movement led Verstappen to see a click on the back of his Red Bull from the last corner at round 60 when Racing became Cory, allowing Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc at the start of round 61, before he was bumped through Russell by turn 1.
Red Bull Three Raps later Verstappen to give fourth place to Russell, whom he chose to obey 5 on turn by going to the inner line, so that Russell released to sweep around the outside until Verstappen crossed and hit him.
Russell eventually knew the reigning four-time champion for the fourth, but the actions of Verstappen saw him pick up three penalty points-worthy he placed one point of a racing offer, while a ten-second penalty was classified in the tenth at the checkered flag.
Post-Race refused Verstappen in an interview with Red Bull to put on the issue when he explained: “When we entered the restart, we came in a difficult situation and gave the place back. What happened and we got a ten second punishment.”
He also broke in the Rachel Brookes of Sky Sports in the interview steps after the race when he declared his wish to discuss the race instead of his incident with Russell.
“Does it matter? I’d rather talk about the race than just one moment.”
The 27-year-old, however, changed his number less than 24 hours later when he went to Instagram to admit that his collision with Russell “was not right”, because instead he pointed out the blame for his own team for their hard tire choice, but promised that he will give everything on the right track for Red Bull.
“We had an exciting strategy and a good race in Barcelona, until the safety car came out. Our tire choice to the end and some movements after the security car restored my frustration, led to a movement that was not good and should not have happened.
“I always give everything there for the team and emotions can run high. You win something together, you lose something together. See you in Montreal.”
