The Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) issued vehicle sales data for August 2025, which shows that a total of 73,041 units of vehicles were transferred to national customers. This figure registered an increase of 4.2% or an additional 2,940 units compared to 70.101 units (updated from the original 70.057 units) report.
According to Maa, the increase was powered by various important factors, including a higher stock stock as a result of the total production from July to 71,439 units. In addition, the launch of new models and massive promotions in combination with the National Day Celebration also helps to stimulate the sale of vehicles.
Compared to the same period by 2024, the sales volume also registered this year a small increase of 0.64%, equal to an additional 461 units compared to 72,580 units that were sold for passenger and commercial vehicles in August last year.
However, the total sales volume from January to August 2025 still showed a decrease compared to the previous year. To date, 516,862 units have been sold for 2025, which is 3.85% lower than the same period in 2024 with 537,532 units.
Looking ahead, Maa expects the sales momentum to be slow for September 2025. This is due to the shorter number of working days as a result of the four holidays during the month, as well as the awaiting consumers prior to the national budget presentation and further announcements about the implementation of RON 95 gasoline subsidies.
