Vice President JD Vance, Vice President of the United States, defended Sunday (local time) the imposition of secondary sanctions and rates for India, and described them as part of Washington’s strategy to apply “aggressive economic lever” against Russia during the war with Ukraine.
During an interview with NBC News’ Meet the Press, Vance said that the Trump administration makes it more difficult for Moscow to take advantage of its oil economy through measures that include rates about India. Vance said: “I think this question betrays a fundamental misunderstanding from where we are. For example, the president has applied aggressive economic leverage, for example the secondary rates on India, to try to make it more difficult for the Russians to get rich in their oil economy.
When demanding the doubts of secretary Marco Rubio that sanctions Russian President Vladimir Putin would not strike -the fires would force, Vance said that sanctions are not off the table. “Sanctions are not off the table, but we are going to make these provisions on a case -by -case basis. The Vice President said that the US still have “many cards left to play” and emphasized that the Trump government has already exerted more economic pressure on Moscow than previous governments. In response to criticism that Washington has not imposed similar measures on China, the largest buyer of Russian oil, Vance said: “We have currently a 54 percent rate on PRC, so we have already applied pretty hefty sanctions to the Chinese and we have encouraged a number of conversations at all levels of the government’s levels.”
Vance also hinted that the US can fall extra rates for countries if the US closes a deal with Russia, and also apply more rates in the countries to bring this war to an end. He added: “We exert an aggressive economic pressure to end this war. Maybe we will put extra pressure, or maybe we feel that we are making progress, and we will call that pressure back,” Vance said.
When asked further about the negotiations of Russia-Ukraine and what is on the table for Ukraine, the vice-president also underlined Washington’s security obligations to Ukraine. “It offers the Ukrainians the type of security guarantees that ensure that the country will not be re -invaded. That is why I think we have made a lot of progress, although we are not there yet,” VANCE added.
VANCE emphasized our diplomatic efforts and further said: “We try to negotiate as much as possible with both the Russians and the Ukrainians to find a middle ground to stop the murders. I think what the president has tried to do here is trying to be in the very aggressive, very energetic diplomas or the United States.”
