Love was in the air as homebuyers were showered with sports cars, flowers and champagne at auctions in Melbourne on Valentine’s Day on Saturday.
PropTrack recorded a preliminary clearance rate of 64.9 percent based on 453 early auction results.
Real estate agents’ hearts started racing as buyers dropped big bucks on homes throughout the day.

In Malvern East, a house sold for $2.025 million after being on the market for $1.55 million – $1.65 million.
Tom Grieve of Ray White said the property was advertised at the top end of the market’s price guide, but strong competition between four bidders – who were mainly hoping to develop the 780 sq m block – led to the house changing hands for $375,000 more than expected.
Mr. Grieve presented the opening bidder, who ultimately purchased the house, with a bottle of champagne and flowers in honor of Valentine’s Day.
“Her husband said, ‘Thanks, you did my job for me,’ or something like that,” Mr. Grieve said.

BigginScott Glen Waverley director and auctioneer Ming Xu said the Wheelers Hill house is in a quiet area that is popular with families.

Mr Xu said that although the new homeowners would not be able to keep the car permanently, they were excited about both their future road trip and securing the five-bedroom home.
“The fact that the car was for the winning bidder added some excitement to the auction and as it was Valentine’s Day it was good to give that gift to everyone who was there,” he added.
Three bidders contested the auction for the home, which was listed for $1.5 million.
It was mentioned to BigginScott’s Lindsay Xu and Jing Chen.

In Melbourne’s northwest, the owners of a Tullamarine home were thrilled with an unexpected Valentine’s Day gift when their home unexpectedly sold for seven figures.
Malek Younan of Ray White said the reserve was $930,000 but the four-bedroom apartment fetched $1.093 million.
“There were four to five live bidders,” Mr Younan said.
“The buyer was an investor who saw it at the last minute about four days ago and ended up jumping in and the auction turned out to be a crazy one.”

Mr Younan said the Reserve Bank’s decision to hike rates on February 3 had not yet had a major impact on the local market.
“The rate hike didn’t really have a huge impact on the auction, but we could see an impact in the future if people’s borrowing capacity is affected,” he said.
He also conducted the auction with a rose wrapped around his gavel and presented flowers to both the owners and the buyer.

The romance continued to flow at an auction at Moonee Ponds, where roses were handed out to everyone in attendance.
Matthews Agency director John Matthews oversaw the marketing campaign for the two-bedroom home, which had a $1.225 million reserve and raised $1.39 million as six bidders vied for the keys.
Matthews’ marketing and communications director Lyndal Sutton said around 50 spectators came to watch the property go under the hammer.
Another bid from Mr Matthews, a four-bedroom Essendon house, also attracted six bidders.
It sold for $1.42 million, destroying its reserve of $1.26 million after it was sold to a young buyer from nearby East Keilor.
9 Mussert Ave, Dingley Village, is close to Dingley Village Primary School, cafes, shops, bus routes and parks.
Buxton’s Nathan Arrowsmith also presented bouquets to both the buyers and seller of a three-bedroom Dingley Village house, which changed hands for $1.15 million.
“We ran out with a bouquet of flowers for the owner and the winning couple,” Mr Arrowsmith said.
The owner had lived in the house for 23 years and was thrilled when it sold just above the $1.1 million reserve, he added.
