Fans demand India call-up for Vaibhav Suryavanshi after ICC Under-19 World Cup 2026 heroics
His performance in the ICC Under-19 World Cup 2026 final against England at the Harare Sports Club left everyone amazed. The left-hander hit 175 runs off just 80 balls, including 15 huge sixes. At just 14 years old, Vaibhav not only won the competition; he rewrote records.

He has now stamped himself as a once-in-a-generation talent. Considering that, fans naturally started wondering why someone who can dominate young cricket across all formats and has already scored a century in the IPL is not being considered for the senior Indian team.
The ICC age rule blocks Team India’s participation
However, the biggest hurdle in Vaibhav’s path to Team India is the ICC’s minimum age policy. This rule was introduced in 2020 to protect young players, both physically and mentally. As per ICC rules, a cricketer must be at least 15 years old to play international cricket.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi was born on March 27, 2011. Even after his historic Under-19 World Cup this month, he is still officially 14 years old. No matter how many fast centuries he scores for Bihar in domestic cricket or how many bowlers he attacks while playing for Rajasthan Royals in the IPL, India’s senior selectors cannot pick him before his 15th birthday.
This means that the earliest possible date for Vaibhav to even be considered for a senior India call-up is after March 27, 2026. Until then, the door to the national team remains firmly closed, negating any possibility of featuring for the Indian team at the 2026 T20 World Cup.
The under-19 journey ends, the waiting game begins for Vaibhav
To add another twist to his journey, Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s time with the India Under-19 team is already over. The BCCI follows a strict one-tournament rule for the Under-19 World Cup. This policy is intended to prevent players from staying in age group cricket for too long and to make room for new talent.
Since Vaibhav has already played at the 2026 ICC Under-19 World Cup in Zimbabwe, he will not be allowed to participate in the 2028 or 2030 editions of the tournament even though he would be under 19 years old during both tournaments.
