The Utah Mammoth and forward Logan Cooley have agreed to an eight-year contract worth $80 million, with an annual average value of $10 million.
Many people thought this would be largely based on signing bonuses, but Mammoth General Manager Bill Armstrong took a page from Winnipeg Jets General Manager Kevin Cheveldayoff’s early playbook and made it a heavily front-loaded deal with no signing bonuses. It is the third-highest entry-level contract in NHL history.
8 x $10 million AAV for Cooley. The contract does not include signing bonus money. It’s very loaded, but all salary. It is the third-highest entry-level contract in NHL history. https://t.co/UFjzKPJc7A

Just before the season started, there were reports that Cooley had turned down an eight-year contract worth approximately $9.6 million per season. The player felt he was worth more and proved it with his play on the ice at the beginning of the season. Cooley has 12 points (eight goals and four assists) in 11 games for the Utah Mammoth this season.

He runs the offense along with Dylan Guenther and JJ Peterka. Both Peterka and Guenther are locked up long term for Mammoth. Guenther is in the first year of an eight-year contract for $7.143 million per season. Meanwhile, Peterka is in the first year of a five-year contract for $7.7 million per season. This is a dynamic line for the Mammoth, and all three are only going to get better.
