Do you think you have what it takes to win a US Open? Now is your chance to select a location to begin the journey as the USGA has announced the local and final qualifying locations for the 126th US Open Championship at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton, NY.
Although the US Open doesn’t start until June 18-21, the local qualifiers – which will feature just one round of 18 holes – will take place between April 20 and May 18 at 110 venues in 46 US states, as well as Canada and Mexico.
Final qualifying begins May 18 through June 8 and includes players who made it through the local qualifiers, in addition to local exempt participants. Thirteen locations (10 in the US and one each in England, Japan and Canada) will host the 36-hole final qualifiers.
Last year, the USGA accepted a record 10,202 entries for the 2025 US Open at Oakmont, surpassing the previous record of 10,187 entries for the 2023 US Open at Los Angeles Country Club.
Interested in giving it a try? There is one condition: you must be a professional, or an amateur with a handicap index of not more than 0.4. If you meet these criteria, you can register to play champs.usga.org starts at 9am ET on February 18. The deadline to enter is 5:00 PM ET on April 8.
While winning the US Open as a qualifier may seem like the ultimate gamble, there is precedent for success. At last year’s US Open at Oakmont, six qualifiers finished in the top 25, including Carlos Ortiz, who finished fourth, and Chris Gotterup, who is now a four-time PGA Tour winner.
