When the news about the US Open plans arose in February, the rule of mixed double champions Sara Errani and Andrea Vavussori labeled the decision “a in -depth injustice”.
Their thoughts have since been reflected by many double specialists, who also grabbed the losing a crucial merit opportunity after they have been expressed before the stars.
Errani and Vavussori eventually received a joker sign to play in the 16-team event, but were the only specialist Doubles pairs in the draw.
The Italian couple opened the day play at Louis Armstrong Stadium – the second show court in Flushing Meadows – and competed as if they had a point to prove.
Passionate roars were loud and clear during their 4-2 4-2 opening victory in the big name pairs Elena Rybakina and Taylor Fritz.
More emotion was shown when they reached the semi-final on Wednesday with a 4-1 5-4 (7-4) victory against Karolina Muchova and Andrey Rublev.
“We also play for all double players who could not be here, so we tried to do our best,” said Vavassori.
Errani and Vavassori are confronted with the American pair of Danielle Collins and Christian Harrison – who signed up on Tuesday morning to replace Sinner and Katerina Siniakova – in the semi -final of Wednesday.
