Amanda Anisimova gathered from a set of four times Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka with 6-7 (4) 7-6 (3) 6-3 to reach on Thursday and reach the US Open Final, where she will record the holder Aryna Sabalenka for a new shot in a Maiden Major Crown.
“Oh my God. It means the world,” said the 24-year-old after reaching her first final at Flushing Meadows.
“I am trying to process that now. It is definitely a dream come true. This has been a dream of mine as forever to be in the US Open Final and the hope is to be the champion.”
Twice, New York champion Osaka, played in her first major semi-final since 2021 and embraced the great occasion in the prime-time glare of Arthur Ashe Stadium.
The couple exchanged twice in a tight opening set, and after a delayed line call by the automated system disturbed Play Osaka again and broke a big roar when Anisimova hit a shot at the set point in the tiebreak.
The 23rd seed struggled to wear the momentum in the following set, however, with Anisimova that corresponds to the intensity of Osaka.
After the players had traded hits for 12 games in the next set, Anisimova jumped into the tiebreak to drag the game to a decision maker.
The eighth seed, which in the final of Wimbledon two months ago lost 6-0 6-0 to Iga Swiatek, rose 4-1 ahead thanks to a forehand winner and kept her courage from there to close the victory and reach back-to-back Grand Slam Finals.
“She really gave me a point for the final. I wasn’t sure if I would get past the finish line. I tried to dig deep. It was a huge fight there,” Anisimova added.
“I tried to stay positive. There was a lot of nerves in the beginning and that is something I try to work on. Yes, this tournament means so much for me that I think that would really reach me.
“In the end you just try to make your way. I try to enjoy the moment. We both played great tennis, and sometimes that was” how do we take these photos? ” But we were just continuing. “
