Five people were killed on December 31 during a US military kinetic attack on two ships belonging to designated terrorist organizations involved in narcotics trafficking, the US Southern Command said on Wednesday.
Intelligence confirmed the ships were transiting along known drug smuggling routes and were involved in drug trafficking at the time of the operation, officials said.
In total, five people described as narco-terrorists were killed during the actions, officials said, including three on board the first ship and two on board the second.

Another strike was announced earlier in the day, but it is unclear at this time if the two are connected.
