While the headlines of the announcement will focus on marijuana realignment – which in itself is positive, as any cannabis reform benefits the entire plant – we are especially pleased with the provisions directing White House staff urging Congress to ensure access to full-spectrum hemp-derived CBD products, a lifeline of the industry. We are also thrilled to be developing a model that will allow some Medicare beneficiaries to receive CBD at no cost upon a physician recommendation.
We view this executive order as a direct rebuke of the hemp ban that was maliciously tied to government reopening legislation. This also provides a strong boost to efforts to extend the ban moratorium for another 18 months so that Congress and the Trump Administration have sufficient time to develop the regulatory framework that will ensure the safe supply of hemp products while cracking down on the bad actors selling the unsafe products the Executive Order calls for.
