Canada vs. USA – the men’s gold medal match that everyone in North America wanted and expected – is all set after victories in the semifinals in which Macklin Celebrini, Jack Eichel And Brady Tkachuk played key roles. Celebrini and Eichel are the most recent winners of BU’s Hobey Baker Memorial Award.
Depending on the outcome, there will be five Terriers with gold medals or just one. The final will be played on Sunday at 8:10 AM ET.
In the first semifinal, Canada trailed Finland late in the third period, but tied the score on a goal from Shea Theodore. When Canada made a power play, Celebrini picked up the puck below Finland’s goal line, passed to Connor McDavid and then screened the goalie as Nathan McKinnon fired the game winner.
Celebrini’s assist gave him a 5-5-10 rating in five matches.
