The conversations about Michael Porter Jr. have been picked up, but there’s still no clear consensus across the league on whether the Nets will actually move him before the deadline.
John Hollinger of The Athletic reported that a trusted source sees the player as a lock to be traded, but other insiders have pushed back on that certainty.
In his latest Substack, Marc Stein wrote that while some around the league believe Brooklyn could sell high during Porter’s breakout season, he’s still hearing resistance to the idea of the Nets looking to trade him during the season.
As one director put it, “There is interest everywhere, but that doesn’t mean Brooklyn is in a hurry.”
Speaking on YES Network, Michael Scotto echoed that sentiment, noting that competing teams have checked in on Porter’s availability.
Scotto cautioned that Brooklyn is also focused on improving next season and may consider Porter as part of that plan.
“He is young, productive and playing at a high level,” he said, adding that expectations for a deal should be tempered despite the increased attention.
According to Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints, the Golden State Warriors and Milwaukee Bucks are among the teams that have made inquiries.
However, the Nets have not indicated they are actively shopping Porter, as their starting point in the talks reportedly would be a valuable first-round pick — and even that may not guarantee a trade.
Scotto also mentioned Nic Claxton, who has drawn interest from teams like the Indiana Pacers and Warriors but is still internally viewed as part of Brooklyn’s future.
