The leader of India, Kl Rahul, acknowledged the challenge of the talented Sanju Samson in securing a place in the side because of established players who occupy key positions. Rahul expressed his satisfaction with Samson’s performance in the series against South Africa, where he grabbed the chance and showed his talent.
Increased to the No. 3 position, Samson played a crucial role in the victory of India in the third and last ODI on December 21, scored his first century and helping India to conquer the series 2-1.
Rahul noticed about Samson’s contribution and stated: “Happy for Sanju, he has been a phenomenal artist in the IPL over the years. Unfortunately, we were unable to give him the chance of number 3, because there are clearly loyal to the ODIs who occupied those important spots. Glad he could take his chances here.”
In the decisive match, Samson played at number 3 in the absence of Virat Kohli, a measured innings of 108 (114 balls), while Tilak contributed with a patient 52 (77 balls), who led India to a competitive total of 296 for eight. South Africa aimed a fight, but they were eventually ejected for 218 in 45.5 overs.
Rahul indicated that the team’s focus would now shift to the next two-test series that starts in Centurion on December 26. Regular captain Rohit Sharma and Kohli will return to the side, with Rahul taking on the role of the primary wicketkeeper.
After the victory, Rahul expressed his joy to be with the team and said that parties would be followed by a shift in Focus to the at all. Samson, called the ‘player of the game’, proudly expressed the score of his first ODI -Echt and credited the extra overs he received at number 3 for his success.
Samson praised the junior players in the team and emphasized their contributions and the standards set by the seniors. Left-arm Pacer Arshdeep Singh, called the ‘player of the series’ for his impressive 10-wicket trek, credited the IPL experience for improving his skills and emphasized the seamless transition from IPL to international cricket for young players.
