Former UFC -Stromatheight Cynthia Calvillo has announced its retirement of mixed martial arts.
Calvillo (10-6-1), who participated for the UFC from 2017 to 2023, was last in action a year ago and won the Hex Women’s Flyweight Championship in Regional Action. In her heyday, she was considered a competitor at 115 pounds and won her first three attacks with the company before she met former (and future) Riet Champion Ladies Carla Esparza.
More victories would follow that setback, with Calvillo 4-0-1 during her next five fights. Weight struggle, however, saw her missing the weight in two of those fights, forcing a step up to flight weight.
After winning her debut in the Flyweight Division about former title -seconder Jessica Eye, Calvillo dropped her next five games. That pinned the end of her time in the UFC.
The 38-year-old went to social media to Announce her retirement On Monday.
“It is time to say goodbye to a sport that I gave everything and that I loved so much. I was not ready to let it go, but the life and opportunities that Fizzled led me to strive for the next chapter in my life,” wrote Calvillo. “I just want to thank every person who helped me to live this crazy dream of me. To all the coaches who believed in me and spent countless hours, so I could be the best, I don’t know how much it means to me.”
By tagging the UFC, CEO and President Dana White, plus matchmakers Sean Shelby and Mick Maynard, Calvillo concluded by saying: “Thank you for leaving this little girl of East Side Side Side Jose’s dream!
