The fight card was headlined by a welterweight match pitting Gabriel Bonfim against Randy Brown. The fight proved to be another impressive performance for Gabriel Bonfim. After unloading 19 heavy low kicks on Randy Brown in the opening round, ‘Marretinha’ ended the fight with a huge knee at 1:40 of round two. The perfectly timed strike sent Brown crashing to the canvas (see that here), but some fans and fighters were less than impressed with the referee’s decision to stop the fight immediately. Regardless, Bonfim is definitely a fighter to watch at welterweight.
UFC Vegas 111 was headlined by a men’s flyweight matchup that pitted Matt Schnell against Joseph Morales. The fight did not make it into the opening round, as Morales was able to lock in a fight-ending guillotine choke at 2:54 of the opening frame. It was an impressive performance for the recent TUF winner.
After tonight’s conclusion eventUFC officials announced at the post-fight press conference that four fighters would take home performance bonuses.
