Bantam weights Miles Johns and Jean Matsumoto were confronted as part of the UFC Vegas 109 -head card on Saturday, with the promotion back on the UFC Apex For the second week in a row.
Both men wanted to bounce back from a few losses that broke profit stripes, although in the case of Matsumoto it was a 16-field profit reak to start his professional career that was stopped by Rob Font previous time-out.
The opening minutes of the fight saw Johns bumping forward from the landing quality on the inside. After connecting to a rinse right hand, Johns shot inside a well -timed Takedown who forced the fight to the floor. After a few minutes, Matsumoto was able to return to his feet where he ate a clean left corner on a counter of Johns. Matsumoto landed a good kick on the body and tried a flying knee so that Johns could press the fight to the cage. Johns landed a good body shot against the fence and defended against a Takedown by Matsumoto. After the first five minutes, Johns jumped ahead to an early lead.
In the second round Johns pushed forward and landing a good double shot on Matsumoto. After a few moments, Matsumoto started to put the pressure on Johns who landed a good staircase on the body. The explosive style of Matsumoto could be seen halfway through the second, with the Brazilian prospect landing several dynamic stairs on Johns. Mattsumoto came forward with a knee and left an opening for Johns to grab his leg and dragged it down. Johns seemed to be tiring and could not keep Matsumoto on the floor. Both hunters exchanged massive hooks on the inside, while Johns was at the forefront of strikes 52-39 with a minute in the round. Matsumoto continued to march forward to even the fight in a round a piece. Johns won the first round, but this second frame was much more competitive and could have been scored for Jean Matsumoto.
A large low staircase of Matsumoto on the floor Johns temporarily in the first times of the round. Johns fights back well and landed a good shot on the body and seemed to run well on the leg. Johns started to find a second wind in the fight and came forward and looked at a big overhand shot. Matsumoto opposed a Flush Uppercut that fluctuated Johns’s head back.
After a multitude of calf shovels John’s Been started to swell, but he continued to become the aggressor and took the fight again with another minute. His third removal of the fight was perhaps his largest so far, because he had control until the last fifteen seconds. Matsumoto shot on a Takedown attempt of itself that was filled with Johns. This was a very narrow and competitive competition that could have been in both directions.
After 15 minutes of action, the jury members were divided. The first ranging with Johns, the second with Matsumoto. The last judge, Sal d’Amato, scored the fight for Jean Matsumoto who earned his third victory in the UFC. In his interview after the fight, Matsumoto called former opponent Rob Font for a Rematch in Brazil later this year.
