Closing the show at UFC Vegas 109 on Saturday were the top 10 of the top 10 of the middle weights Roman Dolidze and Anthony Hernandez.
Dolidze and “fluffy” were neck and neck in The 185 pound rankingsWith dolidze on the #9 place, and Hernandez arranged at #10.
Only 15 seconds in, Hernandez changed from levels and Dolidze went to his back, threatening with a leg lock. Hernandez let that choose to withdraw. The couple then exchanged low staircases, with Dolidze added a few extras. A left corner followed for the Georgian, who had champion Merab Dvalishvili on Saturday in his corner of Bantamweight.
About 90 seconds in, Bonden Dolidze and Hernandez stuck along the fence after a pretty solid exchange. They would stay there for about 30 seconds, Dolidze turned out to have a small lead in strength. Hernandez, however, went to the head with his hands and the body with a kick moments that, Dolidze then drove in the fence before dragging the Georgian to his knees. Again, Dolidze attacked the leg lock and forced Hernandez to withdraw again.
Round two saw Dolidze Hernandez touch again with bone kicks, but Hernandez soon shot in a Takedown. When Dolidze welcomed to fight out of his back, Hernandez let him go up again. “Fluffy” began to mix his hands and stairs, with Dolidze who answered the care of a few clubs. Soon Hernandez Dolidze had pulled into a fight and walked forward, chirping and jawed to the Georgian. Hernandez then mixed things, which forced a tiring dolidze to the ground in what looked like an easy Takedown. Then Hernandez left him back. Inside leg kick, combo, coil, repeat for Hernandez. A few slick false movements, a standing elbow and another Takedown hit the goal for Hernandez. Dolidze rolled into a leg lock and Hernandez scribbled out.
Dolidze saw the next exchange hurt and withdraw, only to be brought down again. Hernandez then went after a guillotine, although he was not out of it. A knee to the body landed for Hernandez, who then went Donkey Kong on Dolidze. Ref Herb Dean then took off Hernandez, and he started to celebrate, only for Dean to inform the corners that the fight was still on – the round was just over.
It was straight back to the ground in round three, Dolidze gave up his back. Hernandez left him again and just wore the Georgian. Hernandez then pinned Dolidze against the fence, with a novel on one knee. Hernandez shot knees on the thigh, put his weight on swing and briefly got an arm around the neck. Dolidze would escape and even try to pull later in the round guard. Instead, Hernandez withdrew and landed a fresh right hand a little later. Then another Takedown came through Hernandez, who came at the top, landed an elbow and set up the heat. On the way to round four, he was easily 30-27.
In a round where Dolidze had to start thinking about a finish, he found Hernandez again draped over him. Dolidze would try to take a leg in vain. Instead, Hernandez soften his opponent more with bumps. And then let Dolidze go up again, which became downright cruel. At the next Takedown attempt, Dolidze took the fence, something he had done earlier in the fight, so Ref Dean said he was taking a point. It wouldn’t matter. Hernandez would land a knee, then grab the neck from behind, dolidze stitches and force the tap while he still stepped back, moving.
Official result: Anthony Hernandez Def. Roman Dolidze by entry (chake choke), round 4, 2:45
