UFC flying weights baptized their feet in the 135 swimming pool when Steve Erceg had a Short-notice opponent in Ode Osbourne on UFC Vegas 109 on Saturday evening.
Erceg (12-4) needed a victory over Osbourne at the top to make a three-part skid. Losses for Brandon Moreno, Alexandre Pantoja and Kai Kara-France are nothing to spot, but it still brought Erceg with his back to the wall.
Osbourne (13-8) accepted the fight on Short-notice When Hyun Sung Park withdrew to withdraw Tatsuro Taira on UFC Vegas 108. He was freshly finished to break his own three-field streak when he defeated Luis Gurule in April.
Round 1 Osbourne took the center of the Octagon with Erceg on the outside. Bone kicks for Osbourne, Erceg worked straight to the right hands. ERCEG came close to the country a left hand and Osbourne landed a heavy 1-2 so that he thinks about it twice.
ERCEG would try to get into reach and the speed of Osbourne caused him many problems when he was squatted a few times. He finally chose to shoot for Takedowns, did not understand, but it is a good change of pace and another look.
An annoying counter left hook landed for Osbourne who rocked Erceg and forced him to shoot the single leg. Erceg couldn’t get it and Osbourne got his own Takedown and took Erceg’s back quickly. Erceg was able to get up again, get his own Takedown and he took Osbourne’s back with about 45 seconds in the round. Erceg got up again when the round ended.
Round 2 Erceg took the middle, but he ate the side kick again. Erceg shot the single leg again and took Osbourne to the fence. Erceg got away and back to the center of the octhoek.
Erceg started to put his hands together by using timing instead of speed. He landed a right hand and then shot for a Takedown that was brought to the fence. Osbourne changed Erceg and pushed him from a body skirt on the break.
Osbourne was clearly stronger than ERCEG at 135 pounds.
Round 3 Osbourne was busy again on Erceg and landed a nice left hand on him. Erceg reacted with a lusty main kick. ERCEG started to falsify some legs to give Osbourne something to think about. He would shoot fake and then at the top because Osbourne responded to the fake.
Erceg shot in and Osbourne was only a second too slow and was removed. Erceg took the side control with his left leg in two. He put pressure with his shoulder on the chin and neck of Osbourne’s.
Osbourne tried to force a scramble, did, but Erceg took the front main lock, got the journey and took over the dominant position with less than 30 seconds.
The fight ended with ERCEG in Full Mount Landing Two Punches.
ERCEG made the victory through a unanimous decision that the three-Vecht streak loses and possibly started its way back to a title shot.
Official result: Steve Erceg Def. Ode Osbourne via a unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)
