With two of the most explosive flyweights in the world taking the octagon, UFC: Mexico City lived up to its expectations as a night to remember. The 125-pound division treated us to a landscape-changing fight when #6 Brandon Moreno took on Lone’er Kavanagh in an arms race of mixed martial arts, and the two did not disappoint once the clock started.
In a breathtaking performance, Lone’er Kavanagh took the night by the horns and earned a unanimous decision victory. Now back in the win column for the first time after a knockout loss, the newest flyweight prospect attracted serious attention on social media from his fellow fighters.
Charles Johnson will lead these guys to greatness @innerGmma_ufc

Terrance McKinney was the first to make a joke about Charles Johnson now having knockout wins over two of the hottest prospects in all of the sport. Maybe McKinney is on to something, Joshua Van is on a six-fight winning streak since suffering a defeat to Johnson and if any of Lone’er Kavanagh’s future fights are anything like the performance he had tonight, I bet we’ll see Kavanagh fighting for the title sooner rather than later.
I said this kid would beat Moreno and he did.
— Manel Kape (@ManelKape) March 1, 2026
Top flyweight contender Manel Kape competed and the win matched a pre-fight prediction from the victorious Kavanagh. But what’s really interesting is the possible match between Kape and Kavanagh; if booked in the future, the two would create the most explosive, high-profile matchup possible at 125 pounds.
After such a flashy performance from 26-year-old Lone’er Kavanagh, the UFC will undoubtedly provide plenty of opportunities for the rising star’s next fight. The England striker will occupy around #6 in the new rankings, with potential opponents including rising #5 Kyoji Horiguchi, veteran #4 Brandon Royval and #2 Manel Kape. At 10-1, Lone’er Kavanagh is one to watch who will make more waves in the fighting world in the coming months.
