Welterweights Geoff Neal and Uros Medic were the co-main event of UFC Houston on Saturday, a fight that marked Medic’s step up in competition and further into the spotlight.
The UFC’s reasoning seemed sound enough: Uros “The Doctor” Medic had never been to the judges in his career, win or lose. Neal, meanwhile, was 1-3 in his last four and wanted to right the ship. He had also revealed that he had battled substance abuse throughout his career, often only being sober for a few weeks before his fights, and had recently gotten his life back on track.
The striking party opened early, with Medic taking the center of the octagon and landing front kicks to the midsection of Geoff “Handz of Steel” Neal, before a fiery exchange of hooks between the two powerful punchers. Dealing in the pocket, Medic was the first to dance, landing a beautiful left hook right on the temple of UFC veteran Geoff Neal; turning off his lights in the first round of the fight.
Make three straight first-round finishes for Uros “The Doctor” Medic, who moves to 13-3 and 7-3 in the UFC. The welterweight contender now has #8 Leon Edwards in his sights, possibly in a rumored fight in Belgrade, Serbia.
Official result: Uros Medic def. Geoff Neal by KO (punches), round 1, 1:19
