The UFC speeds up its expansion strategy in the middle, with a new focus on regional talent development and deeper involvement in the Golf. In a recent interview, UFC Senior Vice President David Shaw stated: “There are discussions for a format to develop talent in the middle, possibly competition series, road to UFC or Ultimate Fighter. It would be useful to include hunters from the Gulf countries.” This is in line with the purpose of the UFC to promote strong regional relationships.
UFC’s track record in the middle -east
The UFC has steadily increased its presence in the Middle East since the first Abu Dhabi event in 2010. Abu Dhabi, through a collaboration with the Department of Culture and Tourism (DCT Abu Dhabi), now organizes at least one numbered UFC event every year, with top-tier championships in the Etihad Arena on Yas Island. This partnership is under an extensive deal up to and including 2028 and includes additional fighting evening events that are distributed in the Midden -Oost and Noord -Africa region.
Saudi -Arabia Become a member of the schedule in June 2024 with a fighting evening in Kingdom Arena, and Qatar organizes UFC Fight Night in Ali Bin Hamad al-Attiyah Arena in Doha later this year. Reports indicate that the UFC is also in conversation to bring future fighting evenings to Egypt, which will continue to expand its regional travel route.
The approach of the competition series
The feeder systems of the UFC – the Contender Series of Dana White, Road to UFC and the Ultimate Fighter – are set formats for discovering new talent. The competition series, for example, places rising hunters against each other for UFC executives, whereby the winners deserve contracts to become a member of the organization. Road to UFC uses a tournament style approach, which often focuses on specific geographical regions, while the Ultimate Fighter offers a reality competition on television that has launched numerous successful careers.
A devoted Middle East version of one of these systems would offer local hunters a way to the world stage and meet a need for more structured development and competitive opportunities for golf-based athletes. Shaw’s comments show the intention of the UFC to explore new talent and give hunters of people like the exposure to the VAE, Saudi Arabia and Qatar at a world-class level.
Regional MMA -Ecosystem
The UFC plans arrive in an already flourishing MMA landscape. VAE Warriors is the largest MMA promoter in the Middle East, and organizes high-profile events and serves as an important springboard for local hunters. The PFL has also been launched PFL Mena, with its 2025 season with 32 athletes from the entire region who participate in a competitive format. PFL’s approach includes regular seasons, play -offs and championships – a structure that is unique for the sport in the region. The competition has signed Top Emirati talent and intends to contain both male and female competitors from Saudi Arabia and the Golf.
Other regional MMA platforms – such as brave CF and national competitions – offer further development locations for emerging athletes. This growing network produces a more competitive field, making the region increasingly important on the global MMA card.
ADCC, founded in 1998 by Sheikh Tahnoun Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, has had a historical influence on martial arts in the middle -east. Originally established to promote and develop martial arts in the VAE, the ADCC has quickly set up a new standard for entry worldwide through its biennial ADCC World Submission Fighting Championships – now recognized as the Gold Standard event in the sport.
UFC
Although the UFC has not yet formalized a launch date or chosen which development format will be implemented, the foundation is laid: local events with regional athletes, extensive international partnerships and explicit public statements about the desire for a gulf-oriented feeder system. The “war room” of the UFC actively assesses options, weighing the best ways to take advantage of the interest of the fans and the successes of established local promotions.
