UFC 324 Staff Picks: Which Exciting Lightweight Titan Will Claim Gold?

After a relaxing holiday break, the UFC is once again bringing the action to combat sports’ biggest stage with the groundbreaking first event of 2026, UFC 324. The show will premiere on the company’s newest broadcast partner, Paramount+, and will be headlined by an exciting interim lightweight championship between two of the division’s hottest contenders: Paddy Pimblett and Justin Gaethje. But before that, former bantamweight titleholder Sean O’Malley is looking to get back within reach when he takes on Chinese phenom Song Yadong.

UFC 324 main event

In an exciting culmination of a seven-fight winning streak in the organization, Pimblett has become a must-see television fighter in the lightweight category. Undefeated since 2018, “The Baddy” has destroyed a string of tough opponents like Tony Ferguson, King Green and Michael Chandler en route to his first attempt at capturing UFC gold.

Since his first fight with the promotion, Gaethje has always delivered a fan-pleasing experience whenever he steps into the cage, backed up by his astonishing nine Fight of the Night bonuses. Having once claimed the interim title in 2020, ‘The Highlight’ is no stranger to high-stakes championship matches as the American has also challenged for the undisputed crown twice.

UFC 324 co-main event

In the not-so-distant past, O’Malley was one of the company’s best pound-for-pound athletes. Tim Welsh’s protégé took over the title from Aljamain Sterling at UFC 292 and enjoyed one successful title defense before being dethroned in dominant fashion by Merab Dvalishvili. With his division rival no longer at the helm of the weight class, O’Malley looks to start a new championship dynasty that will propel the Sugar Show to new heights.

A staple of the world-famous Team Alpha Male gym, Yadong has been consistently a fixture at the top of the bantamweight pecking order for more than half a decade. Recently, “The Kung Fu Kid” earned the biggest win of his career over Henry Cejudo and could push himself even closer to a potential shot at the top if he were able to topple the former 135-pound king.

More fights on the UFC 324 main card

The heavyweights Waldo Cortes-Acosta and Derrick Lewis complete the picture. Then bantamweight contenders Natália Silva and Rose Namajunas come to blows in a match that could determine which woman is the next woman with a shot at a title. Finally, featherweight stalwart Arnold Allen takes on fan favorite Jean Silva.

UFC 324 Predictions and personnel choices
