Della Maddalena (18-2 MMA) will make her first appearance since claiming the promotion’s welterweight title with a unanimous decision over Belal Muhammad at the UFC 315 event in May. ‘JDM’ is currently on an eighteen-fight winning streak, with his only two career losses coming back in 2016.
Meanwhile, Islam Makhachev (27-1 MMA) will return to action for the first time since defending the UFC lightweight title with a submission victory over Renato Moicano at the UFC 311 event in January. The now former 155-pound titleholder will enter tonight’s title fight on a fourteen-fight winning streak.

The first round of the UFC 322 main event begins and Jack Della Maddalena throws a jab but is countered with a low kick. ‘JDM’ jumps in with a combination. Islam Makhachev dodges and delivers a low kick. Jack answers with one of his own questions. He follows that up with a shot. Both men threw shots in the pocket. Makhachev shoots in and scores a big takedown. That seemed pretty easy for the former lightweight champion. He works out of half guard and has some good right hands. There are 3 minutes left in the opening round. A great battle results in Islam taking the champion’s back. Jack Della Maddalena opts to go back to the bottom, with Islam Makhachev now on top and back in half guard. The Russian looks for a choke, but chooses to let it go. The horn sounds to end the first round.
Round two of the UFC 322 main event begins and Islam Makhachev lands a hard calf kick to start. He looks for a single leg, but Jack Della Maddalena breaks free and returns to range. Another low kick and now one to the Russian’s body. ‘JDM’ with a good shot as Makhachev shoots in. The hunters clamp down. Della Maddalena is looking for travel closure. He gets it, but Islam is quickly trying to take the top position. Once again Makhachev has three minutes to work from the top. The former lightweight champion works from half guard. The crowd gets restless and starts booing. Makhachev continues to work some short right hands from top position. Less than 1 minute remains in the round. A pair of club elbows from Makhachev. Jack Della Maddalena scrambles to his feet. The horn sounds to end the second round.
The third round of the UFC 322 headliner begins and Della Maddalena looks to make good on his jab. Islam Makhachev with a hard outside kick. ‘JDM’ has to get something going here. Makhachev with another hard low kick. The Australian lands one himself, but there wasn’t much to say about it. Some good body shots and an uppercut from the champion. He takes a jab at the body of Islam. Makhachev shoots in and scores a perfectly timed double leg takedown. The audience starts to captivate again. Apparently they don’t like ground fighting/wrestling. Islam Makhachev with some good shoulder strikes and then some short left hands. There are 30 seconds left. The horn sounds to end round three.
Round four of the UFC 322 main event begins and Jack Della Maddalena lands a body kick and then a high kick. Islam Makhachev answers with a low kick. ‘JDM’ may have an injury to his right leg. Another double leg takedown from the former lightweight champion. That was way too easy. Good short right hands from the Russian’s halfguard. He walks to the back of Della Maddalena and sets both hooks. Islam is looking for a stranglehold. ‘JDM’ dodges and returns to half guard. Makhachev sets up for a kimura attempt. He lets go and Jack gets back up. The horn sounds.
The fifth and final round begins and Islam Makhachev quickly comes in and manages to score another takedown. He starts choking Jack Della Maddalena again while landing some good punches. He goes to half guard. ‘JDM’ looks for a submission attempt, but quickly gives up. Islam is just over a minute away from making history. He continues to work on Jack’s right side, the last horn.
