UFC 322 picks of the week for exciting November 15 show

In what will be one of the biggest cards in the promotion’s history, UFC 322 presents a duo of blockbuster championship fights featuring some of the most decorated title holders in all of the sport. In the main event of UFC 322, newly minted welterweight king Jack Della Maddalena attempts to defend his lead for the first time against lightweight legend Islam Makhachev. The penultimate fight of the night at UFC 322 pits flyweight phenom Valentina Shevchenko against former strawweight queen Zhang Weili, who recently left her throne in an attempt to pursue even more divisional greatness.

UFC 322 main event

Della Maddalena gloriously wins the title after a five-round war with Belal Muhammad at UFC 315 and enters the Madison Square Garden cage at UFC 322 as a bona fide mixed martial arts star. Enlisting the help of other great martial arts icons like Alexander Volkanovski and Craig Jones, “JDM” aims to capture a fantastic upset of the man many experts call the best fighter in the world.

During his reign as lightweight kingpin, Makhachev cemented his place as the best competitor the division has ever produced, putting together four outstanding title defenses, the most of any 155-pound champion in UFC history. The Russian moves up to 170 pounds for the first time and is ready to take on a whole new challenge in his goal of conquering a new weight class at UFC 322.

UFC 322 co-main event

Last seen in action earlier this year at UFC 315, Shevchenko defeated the immensely talented Manon Fiorot, handing the Frenchwoman her first loss in both the promotion and her professional tenure. Now competing in the first true women’s mixed martial arts superfight we’ve seen in a long time, ‘Bullet’ can add even more to her stellar legacy as the all-time leading flyweight champion by defeating the hard-hitting Weili.

Weili has proven her dominance over the 115-lb class over the past three years and has proven to be a nearly unstoppable force in female MMA, dusting off all challengers who have tried to take her belt, such as Amanda Lemos, Yan Xiaonan and Tatiana Suarez.

“Magnum” takes on the most important match of her life against the otherworldly Shevchenko and will now try to become the second woman to win a championship in two different weight categories, besides Amanda Nunes.

More fights on the UFC 322 main card

Sean Brady rounds out the main card as he tries to hand Ecuadorian powerhouse Michael Morales his first defeat. Then former welterweight great Leon Edwards gets into a fight with Brazilian knockout artist Carlos Prates. Finally, lightweight contenders Beneil Dariush and Benoît Saint Denis are on their way to the title fight.
