UFC 321 controversy leads to all-time rant from MMA legend | BJPenn.com

The controversial ending to the UFC 321 pay-per-view has left one bonus-snatcher giving athletic commissions an earful.

The main event of the UFC 321 card ended on a disappointing note when Tom Aspinall was unable to continue fighting due to an accidental double eye poke. It was a heavyweight title fight against Ciryl Gane that will now have to be rebooked.

UFC record holder Jim Miller made it clear that the lack of punishment for violations over the years led to the outcome of UFC 321. Miller unleashed his tirade in a Instagram post (via MMAfighting).

“Eye poking, eye poking is a foul. And if that foul is committed intentionally, the fighter who commits the foul is disqualified if the fight cannot continue. In most cases, there’s some silly stuff in there too. But it’s up to the referee, and probably the committee on the side of the octagon, to decide whether it was intentional or not. And it never seems to be intentional.”

“My eyesight has been permanently affected by eye pokes. It doesn’t actually affect my ability to fight or see anything up close. It’s more about quality of life – it’s much harder to see a target with my bow these days. Boo hoo. [But] The only way we can stop this is if the fighters who commit the violation are actually punished for the violation. That’s the only way this can stop. It’s not a glove problem; it is a matter of culture and of the fighters.”

Aspinall vs. Gane will be rebooked in the near future. The UFC heavyweight champion was able to avoid serious damage from the poke, and now it’s a matter of when Aspinall’s eye will fully heal. UFC CEO Dana White has confirmed that he will try to book the rematch as soon as possible.
