Daniel Cormier asked an interesting question to Arman Tsarukyan. The former UFC doubles champion asked how opponents should now approach fighting the 29-year-old.
Tsarukyan has been the No. 1 UFC lightweight prospect for more than a year. He got his title shot at UFC 311 last year against then-155-pound champion Islam Makhachev. However, the 29-year-old withdrew from the title fight due to a hernia.
After that, Tsarukyan has struggled to get back into the good graces of the UFC brass. Despite beating Dan Hooker and proving his status as a top contender, he was still denied a title shot due to past misconduct and unreliability.
However, the Armenian has kept himself busy collecting accolades in wrestling and grappling. His PR run has been the most impressive in recent weeks. Ahalkalakets’ recently spoke with Daniel Cormier and discussed several topics. During the candid conversation, ‘DC’ asked Tsarukyan to explain how each fighter can give him a tough fight.
“How do you fight Arman Tsarukyan today?”
In response, Tsarukyan stated the basic principles. To beat the Armenian, a fighter must reflect his skills and have a similar fighting style.
“You have to try to take him down first because if you don’t try to take him down, he will take you down. A fighter who can wrestle really well will be an exciting fight, but if you stand and hit me, it won’t help.”

Arman Tsarukyan is a backpack style wrestler who not only has a strong foundation in wrestling but also has dangerous attacks in his arsenal. However, in the past he has fought Islam Makhachev, who has elite sambo, ground control and wrestling. In 2022, the Armenian also lost to Mateusz Gamrot, whose base is in freestyle wrestling and submission wrestling.
Arman Tsarukyan apologizes to Hunter Campbell and Dana White
During the same conversation with Daniel Cormier, Arman Tsarukyan famously apologized to Dana White and Hunter Campbell and then asked for a title shot.
Headbutting Dan Hooker, punching a fan at UFC 300 and withdrawing from UFC 311 are the reasons why he wasn’t awarded a title shot in early 2026. However, the Armenian has vowed to conduct himself well in his next fights and not create unnecessary drama.
“Dana and Hunter, forgive me. Give me a title fight. I’m a good boy. I’m not going to hit anyone again.”
