UEFA orders Frankfurt to pay Barcelona for the damage to Camp Nou

UEFA has ordered Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt to pay Barcelona for the damage caused by their fans during their Champions League match at Camp Nou.

According to RAC1, Barcelona plan to demand €6,100 to cover repairs to the damage to their newly renovated stadium.

Hansi Flick’s team did not have a great time on the field either. Barcelona continued an alarming trend as an unlikely brace from Jules Kounde propelled them to a 2-1 victory.

Frankfurt fans destroyed Camp Nou during the clash in Barcelona

According to Spanish media reports, Eintracht Frankfurt supporters damaged several seats in the away stand, lit and threw flares and damaged part of the barrier between home and away fans.

The visitors’ area toilets were also vandalized, with broken fixtures and Eintracht Frankfurt stickers plastered to the walls.

In addition, the Catalan police also had to intervene several times during the match. They made five arrests, investigated more than ten people for theft and criminal trespass, and expelled seventeen people from the stadium.

Twelve administrative complaints were registered during the course of the game.

After the match, Barcelona sent a detailed report to UEFA detailing the disruption they faced during the match. UEFA’s Supervisory, Ethics and Disciplinary Body investigated the matter and has now imposed a number of strict sanctions.

UEFA imposes a two-match ban on Eintracht Frankfurt fans

UEFA has fined Eintracht Frankfurt €38,000 and banned them from selling tickets to their fans for their next two European appearances.

In their ruling, UEFA explained that the fans violated several articles of Article 16 of the disciplinary regulations.

The UEFA report stated:

[UEFA] Ban Eintracht Frankfurt from selling tickets to visiting fans for the next UEFA club competition match for lighting and throwing fireworks and causing disturbances among the crowd.

Fine Eintracht Frankfurt €30,000 and ban it from selling tickets to visiting fans for one (1) additional UEFA club competition match for setting off fireworks and throwing objects; and a fine from Eintracht Frankfurt of €8,000 for damages.”

That’s not all. Frankfurt must “contact FC Barcelona within 30 days of notification of this decision to repair the damage caused by its fans during the away match.”

Including Barcelona’s demand, Frankfurt is looking at a hefty bill of €44,100. The absence of away fans is also far from ideal for Frankfurt as they face an uphill battle to stay in the Champions League.

Frankfurt have secured just four points from six UCL appearances so far and sit 30th in the table.

They will take on Qarabag FK away from home in their next potentially do-or-die encounter. Without their enthusiastic supporters, the already difficult challenge could become even more difficult.
