The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) has agreed to pay $ 6 million to arrange a lawsuit filed by Jewish students and faculty members about the treatment of anti-Israel protests by the school, including allowing demonstrators to ban Jews from part of the Campus “.

The lawsuit was submitted last year by the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty, that UCLA accused of “helping an anti -Semitic culture”, including “separating Jewish students and for preventing access to the heart of the campus.”

In a statement to Fox News Digital, Mary Osako, the UCLA Vice Chancellor for Strategic Communications, said that the university has taken “concrete action to improve campus safety by creating a new office of campus and community safety, setting a new policy to manage our long policy and decisive action” “”

“Anti -Semitism has no place at UCLA and we remain steadfast in our dedication to eradicate our community,” said Osako. “We have frankly reflected about our progress and working to pour anti -Semitism from our community in its entirety.

“These efforts have been supplemented with our constant work to eliminate anti -Semitism completely and definitively by our initiative to combat anti -Semitism,” she added. “This work, and today’s regulation, represent an important next step while we build on our past efforts and step towards fulfilling our promise to be an exemplary university.”

The university agreed to enter into a consent judgment and pay more than $ 6.13 million to the claimants. A federal court still has to give definitive approval.

In August 2024, a federal judge ordered the school to stop allowing anti-Israeli demonstrators to ban Jews from parts of the school campus. School officials acknowledged that students were physically blocked for access to parts of the campus.

“In the year 2024, in the United States of America, in the state of California, in the city of Los Angeles, Jewish students were excluded from parts of the UCLA campus because they refused to turn their faith,” a federal court found at the time.

“This fact is so unimaginable and so disgusting for our constitutional guarantee of religious freedom that it repeats, Jewish students were excluded from parts of the UCLA campus because they refused to put their beliefs on.”

Yitzchok Frankel, when a third -year law student at the UCLA and Father who said he was confronted with anti -Semitic intimidation for wearing a Kippah, was forced to leave his regular routes by the campus because of the Jew’s exclusion zone.

“When anti -Sites terrorized Jews and excluded them from the campus, UCLA chose to protect the criminals and keep Jews out,” Frankel said in a statement to Fox News Digital by the Becket Fund. “That was embarrassing, and it is sad that my own school defended those actions for more than a year. But today’s verdict brings justice back to our campus and ensures that Jews will be safe and be treated again again.”

Mark Rienzi, president of Becket and a lawyer for the students involved in the lawsuit, said that campus managers throughout the country bent their knees into anti -Semites while camps spread over university campuses.

“They are now aware: treating Jews such as second class citizens is wrong, illegal and very expensive,” he said. “UCLA must be praised for accepting a judgment against that misconduct and determining the precedent that allowing Jews to violate the constitution and civil rights laws. Students throughout the country are safer for it.”
