Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua: Lennox Lewis leads calls for All-British Showdown

2 minutes, 42 seconds Read

Lennox Lewis has called Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua to put on a fight “would like to see the world” and determine who is the greatest British heavyweight champion of their generation.

Former heavyweight champion Fury is still technically retired after he has hung his gloves in the aftermath of his second defeat against Oleksandr Usyk.

Fury’s route back to the Ring seems to be concentrating on the aid of his two defeats for the undisputed Ukrainian in a trilogy fight, which he claims is planned for April 18 at Wembley Stadium.

But Lewis believes that a completely British fight against Joshua is essential and compares it with his global heavyweight title fight against Frank Bruno.

“Fury needs a great fight,” said former undisputed champion Lewis Sky Sports. “He needs a great British fight as I had with Frank Bruno.

“They have been talking about it for a while, whether they are going to do it or not, but I hope they do it because England loves a big fight when it comes to boxing.

“It’s a respect thing – who is the biggest British heavyweight champion? People want to fight to stand at the top.

“The whole world would like to see that fight, especially the British fans, who love a good dust between those two large heavyweights. I would like to see that fight.”

Fury focused on USYK trilogy

Joshua has been out of operation since he ran the fourth defeat of his career – a devastating fifth round – interruption by Daniel Dubois in Wembley in September 2024.

The subsequent and convincing defeat of Dubois to use UsyK within five rounds, however, has only reinforced the conviction of Fury that a trilogy with Ukrainian, and not an all-British collision with Joshua, is his logical next step.

After his stunning knockout victory against Daniel Dubois, he wiped joseph Parker’s suggestion for a fight between the couple in the future.

“After boxing last night and thinking about the situation,” Fury added, “Aj Boxed Daniel Dubois recently and was smoothed out, made up five times, crushed.

“Dubois was on a great run, three large knockouts in a row, including Joshua and [Filip] Hrgovic and [Jarrell] Miller, and he goes in there and is absolutely plastered, ice cold by usyk.

“AJ is well -ironed by Dubois and Usyk just put out of Dubois. So it only shows, there are all the big fights – [like] Tyson Fury and AJ – but it’s pretty pointless.

Oleksandr Usyk unveiled a hilarious nickname for his knockout punch after his dominant victory over Daniel Dubois in Wembley.

“The only man who has been able to beat this ****** is myself and is scammed. I am not sure what is going on, but do you know what it is?

“GK [Gypsy King] All day, every day, still the top dog, still the top G. hit him twice and I will do it again. Wembley, here we come. “
