Tyrese Maxey admitted his final overtime attempt “wasn’t clean” after the 76ers’ 125-124 loss to the Denver Nuggets. “I tripped over my foot and tried to shoot it, but I fell,” he said.
The guard emphasized the challenge of adjusting to Denver’s rhythm. “It’s a little bit difficult… those are really good players there. You still have to be able to reframe your thoughts and know what those guys are going to do and go out there and stop them,” Maxey explained.
Maxey said the game offered teachable moments, especially during the game’s late run. “The biggest thing I learned in terms of regulations was… I wish VJ would come a little earlier and set the screen so I had time to operate,” he said.
He praised VJ Edgecombe’s performance and shooting skills. “He’s a big player… we just know he’s good. He makes a lot of winning plays and made a lot tonight,” Maxey said.
In expanding his scoring arsenal, Maxey noticed work in the post. “A lot of work… I’m a stronger guard now, I could post people,” he said. He added that this gives him more options to attack the defense.
Maxey also spoke about maintaining focus during the grueling season. “Teams can go two different ways here… you can either make a push or lose a few,” he said. “We just have to refocus and get back to work.”
Maxey remains active defensively. “Maybe teams are more cautious, but I had four steals tonight. I’m just trying to play defense,” he said.
Maxey thought about the possibilities in the late game and emphasized communication and learning. “We’ve done pretty well in close games this year… I took a good look at it, I could have explained better what I wanted to happen,” he said.
Finally, Maxey praised the recent rotations with Joel Embiid and Adem Bona. “Bona can fly around well, make defensive plays and make offensive rebounds. I like that setup,” he said.
Philadelphia returns home to host Washington, while Denver travels to Boston.
