Tyler Adams will miss the majority of AFC Bournemouth’s winter program due to a new injury.
Adams has been diagnosed with a torn MCL after being substituted during Bournemouth’s 4-4 Premier League draw with Manchester United on Monday. Cherries manager Andoni Iraola confirmed he will be out for at least two to three months.
The US men’s national team midfielder played just three minutes in the match before being substituted two minutes later. The injury occurred during a collision with Red Devils striker Matheus Cunha.
“Tyler is injured. He tore his MCL. So he will be out, definitely out for a while,” says Iraola said on Friday at this press conference ahead of Bournemouth’s league match against Burnley, transcribed by the Bournemouth Echo.
“Normally two, three months,” Iraola said when asked about Adams’ recovery timeline. “Two months, two optimistic months, pessimistic three, something like this. So yeah, it’s a big blow. It’s a big blow because it’s an important player for us. But when you saw the mechanism and the action, we immediately had the feeling that there could be something there.”
Adams has once again played a key role for Bournemouth this season. He played 15 games prior to his early departure on Monday. He scored twice for the Cherries in league matches, one which led to a goal of the month award in November.
The 26-year-old midfielder has made 52 appearances for the South Coast club since joining the club in August 2023. He missed most of the 2023/24 season due to multiple injuries.
Adams’ injury could rule him out of the USMNT’s next match in March when Mauricio Pochettino’s squad face Portugal and Belgium in friendly action.
Should Adams miss out, he will have two months before Pochettino announces his World Cup squad for next summer’s competition in North America.
