Eating two of a specific type of fruit every day can keep the gastroenterologist away.
Dr. Trisha Pasricha, a gastroenterologist at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, “writes” two kiwis a day for her patients to help with digestion and a boost of vitamins and antioxidants.
“I hesitate to say that there is a magical fruit that will cure all your misery of intestinal health, but in some respects, kiwis seem to rise above some of the other proven methods that are available, such as plums or psyllium fiber,” Pasricha told Fox News Digital.
Eating this normal food before bed can cause sweet dreams or nocturnal horrors
A single kiwi contains a maximum of eight grams of fiber, which prevents constipation and promotes regular bowel movements, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
But the superfood also contains actinidine, an enzyme that helps digestion by breaking down proteins. It is not found in many other foods.

Actinidin is so powerful that it is used commercially as a meat tender, Pasricha recently wrote in her “Ask A Doctor” column for the Washington Post.
Pasricha said she recommends it about other foods with many fibers, such as plums, which can actually contribute to a bloated feeling and are more difficult to convince people to eat.

She has seen Kiwi’s wonders do for her patients and her own family, she said, but a 2022 study proved what she and other gastro -centerologists have long observed anecdotal.
Scientists from New -Zeeland, Italy and Japan discovered that two kiwis a day helped to have participants more often and full bowel movements and helped to relieve abdominal pain, indigestion and tension while they went to the bathroom.

Some foods and supplements can make people feel blown up but kiwis are not in that category, experts say. (Istock)
“The fiber helps with digestive problems and constipation, in particular by adding bulk to faeces so that it can move more easily through the colon and also mitigate stools, so it is easier to push it out,” told Fox News Digital, based on new York Robin Decicco.
The study showed that the fruits turned out to be more effective than Psyllium Husk, said a supplement that Pasricha “long reigned queen in the Gastroenterology World.”

In the meantime, researchers in Norway discovered in 2011 that Kiwi consumption contributed to the prevention of DNA breaks that can cause cancer -like growths and reduced triglycerides, which are bound by the risk of a heart attack.
A 2023 study in China also suggested that people who ate more Kiwis had a 13% lower risk of colorectal cancer.

“More research needs to be done to fully understand the kiwi consumption and the risk of cancer – but the scientific foundation has been laid,” Pasricha wrote in her column.
The small green fruits also burst with vitamins C, E and K and antioxidants that are known to protect against cancer, cardiovascular diseases and diabetes, according to Pasricha.

Those effects come from a healthy diet, she emphasizes, no supplements.
