The WTT Contender Series event in Foz Do Iguacu, Brazil ended today and Brazil Hugo Calderano won second victory in so many tournaments. The $ 17,000 for first place is a nice price, and the 600 ranking points have to bring it to around 6200 total points-solid in third place in the world ranking.
Calderano was on a real role during this tournament. He dropped a single match in his two opening matches (3-1 and 3-1) before he found his top equipment and UDA and Jungsung 3-0 and 3-0 defeated. After winning the first two games in a convincing way, it seemed that he would have an easy title – but Duda found a way to make the game tight. After a few of 11-7 victories for Calderano Duda demolished in a 11-9 victory-with 3 of the 4 points after the two were bound at 8-8. Calderano then won the fourth match-on-new lead to an advantage of two games. The next two games went to Duda on 11-9 and 12-10 evening the match score on 3-3. And then Calderano closed the door to win the last game (in his home country) 11-8.
On the women’s side, the story was the five Japanese women who reached the quarterfinals. In the end, Miwa Harimoto was the strongest of the All-Japan semi-finals. She defeated Honoka Hashimoto 3-2 in their semi-final and then stood in the final with Miyu Nagasake.
The title of the men double went to Benedikt Duda and Dang Qui. The title of the ladies Doubles went to Miwa Harimoto and Satsuki Odo. The title of the mixed Doubles went to a few less well -known Japanese players, Satoshi Aida and Honoka Hashimoto
