Starting in 2019, the MLB began awarding two “All-MLB” teams, similar to the longstanding All-Pro teams the NFL awards at the end of the season. These teams, a first team and a second team (regardless of competition), are designed to reward the best players in each position. Each All-MLB team consists of a catcher, one from each infield position, three non-dedicated outfielders, a designated hitter, five starting pitchers and two relievers.
Two Brewers reached the Second Team, as Brice Turang and Freddy Peralta were named second basemen and one of the five starting pitchers on the second team. They are the eighth and ninth Brewers to make an All-MLB team in the award’s seven-year history (first teamers Christian Yelich in 2019, Corbin Burnes and Josh Hader in 2021, and William Contreras in 2024, and second teamers Yasmani Grandal in 2019 and Devin Williams in 2020 and 2023).
Turang was rewarded as, according to many, the best-positioned player in the team with the best record in the league. In addition to solid defense and baserunning, Turang unlocked previously untapped power and improved dramatically at the plate. Peralta has been the team’s steadiest presence all season, finishing fifth in the National League Cy Young voting yesterday.
The Brewers had several nominees in addition to Turang and Peralta who were not selected (the list of nominees at each position is long, at least nine players even for the single positions): William Contreras as catcher, Christian Yelich as design hitter, Sal Frelick and Jackson Chourio in the outfield, Quinn Priester as starting pitcher, and Trevor Megill and Abner Uribe as relief pitcher.
