“Turns out to be a problem”: Sheffield Wednesday vs. predictions Derby County News: The72 – Football League News

Sheffield Wednesday host Derby County on Monday evening, with both teams looking to claim all three points.

When Sheffield Wednesday went into administration at the end of October and were given a 12-point deduction, their fans were jubilant. Dejphon Chansiri’s reign was over and SWFC could finally look to a better future.

The Owls fought hard on the pitch and took points earned through their strong performances against the likes of Watford, QPR and Birmingham City, despite knowing relegation is all but inevitable. Plagued by both injuries, they drew 1-1 against Watford last time out.

Under Henrik Pedersen, Wednesday recorded one win, six draws and twelve defeats in their nineteen championship games. They are at the bottom of the table with -9 points.

Derby County have had a lukewarm season under John Eustace. They recovered well from a bad start, but tough form helped them stay 15th.

Summer signing Carlton Morris played a starring role for the Rams, scoring ten goals in sixteen appearances for him injury in the defeat to Watford.

Derby County’s reliance on Morris has proven to be a problem. They have won just one in four since his absence and also lost when he retired early against the Hornets. Last time out the Rams held Millwall to a 1-1 draw.

Here, a handful of our writers make their predictions for the game…

Joss Taylor

“I see that Derby County simply have too much for Sheffield Wednesday in this match.

“Hillsborough has been far from a fortress this season. SWFC only picked up two points at home and the injury problems continued. I don’t see Pedersen’s side having enough quality to get a result against the visitors.

“The Rams will be keen to prove that they are far from a one-man team in Morris’s absence. Patrick Agyemang will be keen to add to his tally of three goals this season, and I think he could do just that in a 2-0 win on Monday.”

Prediction: Sheffield Wednesday 0-2 Derby County

James Ray

“Sheffield Wednesday do more than just go through the motions on the pitch and that is a testament to Henrik Pedersen and his players. SWFC already know they are going down, but they have kept fighting to give their fans something to cheer about.”

“There was little joy at Hillsborough though and Derby County are certainly a team capable of punishing them.

“The absence of Carlton Morris has had an impact on the Rams and their attack without him is proving to be a problem, but this game gives the other forwards an opportunity to show how they can step up. I think it will be a fairly routine away win, but the visitors can take no prisoners against a side that is ready to battle.”

Prediction: Sheffield Wednesday 0-2 Derby County
